Yes, you read that correctly. Aston Villa put the Champions to the sword in an extraordinary game in which Villa beat the Premier League Champions in an emphatic manner. Before we get to the action, lets start with the line-ups that the two sides put out…

Now to the game. Aston Villa of course came into this game as the clear underdogs with Liverpool expected to get the three points from Villa Park, even with the expectation that Villa could put up a good fight. However, no-one, absolutely no-one would have expected Villa to triumph and so emphatically as well.
Villa started the game with incredible commitment and guile and they did not give the Champions time to even breathe on the ball. It was the best possible start for Dean Smith’s men when Adrian (who came in for the injured Alisson) gave a heavy pass which was latched upon by Grealish who put a pass into Watkins and the ex-Brentford man scored his first Premier League goal!

Aston Villa continued to pressure Liverpool into areas and continuing to pile the pressure on the Champions with Villa certainly not settling for a one goal lead – Villa were going hell to leather in their ambition to put the Champions to the sword.
The goal to make it 2-0 was extraordinary from Watkins as he managed to burst past Gomez and Van Dijk and curled his shot into the top corner of Liverpool’s net, which really made the football world sit up and pay attention.

Barkley then had two good chances to increase Villa’s lead, but the Chelsea loanee was unable to complete the chances that he was presented with. Liverpool, then showed a glimpse of their ruthlessness when the ball dropped to Salah in the right hand side of the box to half the deficit for the Reds.
Neither Villa or Liverpool had a chance to comprehend Salah’s goal when John McGinn scored a wonderful (and deflected) volley to restore Villa’s advantage and bring the Villans closer to making the dream of beating the Champions a reality!

So, extraordinarily, Villa now held a 3-1 lead with Villa and Liverpool fans both shocked, but also with very contrasting emotions.
Just four minutes later came yet another goal in this game, and it was Watkins, who in this impressive debut at Villa Park completed a perfect hat-trick when he slotted the ball past Adrian from a ball drilled across the Liverpool penalty area.

Villa were now shocking the football world, as they went into the half-time break with a staggering 4-1 lead.
Aston Villa started the second half like they did in the first, not letting the Liverpool players breathe in possession. Things were about to get better for all of those of an Aston Villa persuasion when Ross Barkley, who had a brilliant debut, scored to make a great lead an extraordinary one… 5-1 ASTON VILLA!

It was a frantic game, and this was highlighted when Salah once again scored to reduce Villa’s advantage to three goals. 5-2.
Captain Jack Grealish then continued Villa’s incredible performance when his powerful strike deflected off the Liverpool defence to bury the ball in the back of the net to restore Villa’s four goal advantage – Villa were 6-2 up against the Premier League Champions!

Captain Jack then completed the rout when he slotted the ball into the back of the net to put Villa fans into dream land! Everyone thinking “How is this happening?” It was an extraordinary game for Villa – 7-2!
Villa then continued to show commitment and flair for the rest of the game with Nakamba and Elmohamady coming on for Cash and Luiz who had run with such energy across the match. Villa then went on to secure a historic, extraordinary, stunning 7-2 win over the reigning Premier League Champions.
What a result, what a game!
